Clermont is known as the "Gem of the Hills" by the locals and is the largest city in south Lake County. It is noted for its natural rolling hills, which is unusual for central Florida. It is also known for its many cool clear fresh water chain of 16 lakes, connected by the Palatlakaha River in the Ocklawha Basin of tributaries of the St. Johns River, the only river system in the U.S.A that flows north. The historic downtown district is still much as it was 50 years ago.
It is the crossroads of Florida, located at the intersection of State Road 50, which runs east and west across the State and U.S. Highway 27, which runs north and south through the center of the state.
The Clermont area is one of the hottest growing communities attracting big retail names like Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart and Kohls as well as many small establishments.
